Westernmost of the three castles still manned by the Night's Watch, the Shadow Tower stands near the end of the Wall, where the ice runs up against the mountains. Its garrison keeps the western marches of the Wall, a duty grown heavier as the castles about it were abandoned one by one.
Guarding the West
The rangers of the Shadow Tower range the foothills and passes where wildling raiders come down from the high valleys, and keep watch over the Gorge and the Bridge of Skulls below abandoned Westwatch. With Sentinel Stand and Greyguard empty, leagues of the Wall to either side answer to the Shadow Tower alone, and its patrols ride far along the top of the ice.
