Seat of House Tully, raised where the swift Tumblestone joins the broad Red Fork. The castle commands the heart of the riverlands from a point of land between the two rivers, its sandstone walls rising sheer from the water.
An Island in Time of War
On the third side of the castle runs a wide dry moat, dug in ages past. When danger threatens, the lords of Riverrun open their sluice gates and let the rivers pour in, and the castle becomes an island. Behind walls lapped on every side by water, a garrison well provisioned may laugh at a besieging host many times its number.
The Wheel Tower
The great Wheel Tower stands over the Tumblestone, its waterwheel turning endlessly with the current. From the Water Gate beneath the walls, boats pass from the river into the castle itself, so that Riverrun need never hunger while the rivers run free.
