Seat of House Caswell, commanding the ancient stone bridge where the roseroad crosses the upper Mander. Small though the castle is, few holdings in the Reach matter more, for every host that marches between Highgarden and King's Landing must pass beneath its towers.
The Bridge
The bridge is older than the castle that guards it, its stones worn smooth by thousands of years of wheels and hooves. The crossing was once called Stonebridge, and took its bitter name from a slaughter fought upon it in the days of the Andal kings, when the river ran red beneath the arches. Ever since, the centaur banner of Caswell has watched the crossing, and armies beyond counting have camped in the meadows about the town while their captains treated within the castle's hall.
